What can I saw about the infamous Clinton Street Baking Company?Is the wait on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon really 1.5 - 2 hrs? Sorry folks...the answer is yes....
Is it worth it?
yes. yes. yes.
I am not someone that people would describe as very patient...yet even I on occasion will succumb to the sometimes 2 hr wait to get a bite of those delicious blueberry pancakes. After many tastings...I have decided the secret lies within the maple butter...where oh where can I get a tub full of that butter??
Not to say that Clinton Street is only good for the blueberry pancakes...all the homestyle cooking is delicious and often my boyfriend and I will order two salty dishes with a side of the pancakes - thats a lot of food you might say...but here's a tip - order the pancakes no matter what - if you can't finish them they hold up surprisely well as leftovers the next day! Trust me...after a long Monday at work you'll be thankful you have those pancakes waiting for you at home...
Other tips...be prepared for the wait- don't arrive too hungry...across the street Piada, a sweet little Italian shop serves great little egg sandwiches as a snack to tide you over till you bite into the pancakes...
Also...the same owners have opened up Community Food & Juice up near Columbia (Broadway between 112th and 113th) where you can get the same pancakes...although I still think the original have an edge...
P.S. they serve the pancakes all day so if you can't stand the wait...come for dinner when it is usually calmer...
