Resto is a new tasty food spot, filling a void in an area desperately needing more food options, straddling Murray Hill and Flatiron. I'm not really sure where one begins and the other ends....
Nonetheless, Murray Hill residents are cheering now...
Resto is a sleek and modern, classic rendition of an old Belgian beer bar and serves Belgian food at its best. Burgers, moules frites done 3 different ways, and fries with 7 different sauces, ranging from mayo with onion (my favorite) to lime pickle and lemon with smoked paprika.
Fries galore. It's like I've died and gone to heaven.
The appetizers are the BEST. BEST. BEST.
Start with the deviled eggs. No longer just cocktail fodder, deviled eggs are making a comeback all around town with renditions at The Spotted Pig and Hundred Acres.
But, Resto serves up one of the best - deviled eggs on pork toast with green onion. Deviled eggs with bacon? Does it get any better than that? I think not.
The burger is a popular choice- topped with gruyere, red onion, pickle and mayo. For the moules frites - I always choose the parsley and garlic.
Other moules frites options include witte ale, garlic and orange zest, and debal curry, coconut milk and cilantro. I'll have to try that sometime.
As for beers...of course they have one of the widest selections, with over 5 dozen Belgian beers, But..
Beware. Don't ask for advice- they'll just point you in the direction of the most expensive beer on the menu. That's how I ended up drinking my first $14 beer.
Also, dessert is disappointing. $8 for a liege waffle. Take me to the Waffle & Dinges Truck any night of the week instead.
One more tip - the restaurant only reserves 50% of the tables, leaving the other half for walk-ins. But since the restaurant is fairly small, if you get there past 7pm you might be out of luck and in for a long wait at the bar.
Happy Drinking.
