Levain Bakery is the go-to place when you want giant, monster-sized old fashioned chocolate chip cookies.
These suckers are huge, we're talking heavy duty...each one weighing definitely at least a pound.
So I'm not super good at guessing people's weight, but I know I put on at least a pound after munching down on one of these goodies.
Located on 74th and Amsterdam, Levain Bakery is a tiny shop in the basement of a classic townhouse- it's downstairs so it can be easy to miss. Goods are baked on premises and the sweet and buttery aroma will make you think you are in heaven.
Aside from a variety of breads, brioches (the chocolate chip is to die for), Levain's claim to fame really is the cookies. At $3.75 a pop, they are certainly pricey, but given the size and richness, we can splurge once in a while, right?
They make 4 varieties - Oatmeal Raisin, Dark Chocolate Chocolate Chip, Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip, and the Chocolate Chip Walnut.
My favorite though is the classic Chocolate Chip Walnut...
Huge, doughy, full of melt in your mouth chocolate chips and crunchy walnuts - one cookie will likely satisfy any sweet tooth for the day, probably the week. Very rich, very gooey...
For a nice and relaxing afternoon, I recommend trekking up to the Upper West Side to grab one of these for a yummy movie snack at the Loews Lincoln Square theaters. I like to sneak them in my purse into the movie theater for my delicious snack...you will definitely elicit envious stares from your neighbors!
P.S. Make sure to bring lots of extra napkins - the chocolate gooeyness has a tendency to get everywhere!
