Here's a quick rundown of some food events happening around New York this weekend from Grace Kang at Serious Eats.
My picks from the list:
Celebrate Belgian Frites and Waffles
Sunday, July 26, 2 to 9:30 p.m.
For Belgian National Day, head to the Frying Pan for food, face painting, the Miss Belgium USA contest, and music (the Flemish band, Flip Kowlier and the Walloon band, Monsieur Dupont). The Frying Pan, Pier 66, 205 12th Avenue, New York NY 10011 (nr. 26th Street; map); event website
3rd Ward's Pig Roast & Dance Party
Sunday, July 26, 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Pig out at 3rd Ward with Tom Mylan (Marlow & Sons) and Eric Sherman as they transform two-hundred pounds of pork into tacos for all. Get a platter of two tacos and two sides for $9 and wash it down with many drink specials (see photos from last year). There'll be live music all afternoon as well as pig-inspired screen printing for $1. Sounds pigtastic! Free admission. 3rd Ward, 195 Morgan Avenue Brooklyn (b/n 6th and 7th Avenue; map); event website
Support Ice Cream in Rwanda
Sunday, July 26, 6:30 p.m.
Blue Marble Dreams is Blue Marble Ice Cream's non-profit project, and they're celebrating the opening of an ice cream parlor called Sweet Dreams in Butare, Rwanda. This calls for ice cream for everyone! The fundraiser features women drummers from Butare, an ice cream social, and a silent auction. Tickets start at $25/person. House of the Lord Church, 415 Atlantic Avenue Brooklyn (near Bond Street; map); event website
